Quilting WIPS

You may recall that I decided 2023 was the year I wanted to learn to quilt.  I grabbed the Basket Case pattern by Cluck Cluck Sew and Sandy Gervais's Hello Spring fabric and got started.  Basket Case is a beginner friendly quilt pattern that uses jelly rolls.

Well, I've got all the pieces cut out and have 4 sets of blocks done.  Only 34 more to make!

But, being me, I couldn't just work on one quilt at a time LOL  I jumped in with both feet and am doing two block of the month quilts.  The first is the one that is from Sherri McConnell and her daughter Chelsi Stratton from A Quilting Life.  I've followed her blog for several years even though I am just now making my first quilt.  I've used their fabric to sew clothes before.  They have been doing these block of the month quilts for several years now.  I've got all my blocks caught up for this.  I'm using one of their older fabric lines called Clover Hollow.

The second block of the month quilt I am doing is from Corey Yoder at Coriander Quilts.  Once again, I've followed her blog for years.  I mean like YEARS LOL  She designs fabric and quilts and leans toward scrappy designs.  She gave me a faboulous tip on Facebook this week while I was working on making the fabric strip blocks.  I've got half of the strip blocks done to make into half square triangles.  Of course, I jumped ahead and made this month's block.

As mentioned previously, I love watching Kimberly Jolly of the Fat Quarter Shop.  She hosted a Quilt Along (QAL) that is just wrapping up called Sewcialites 2.  I ordered some adorable Christmas fabric to do this one.  I'll probably get started on it over the weekend if Hubs works.

Until Next Time...

My Reading Habits

I am an avid book reader.  I have even been known to read a good bit of fanfiction (I'm a Twifan...yes, I admit that in public).  Since joining Goodreads I've come to love to do reading challenges.  In case you're like my best friend and have no clue what that might be, let me explain.  A reading challenge can be as simple as setting a reading goal for the year.  Or it can be as complex as one I'm doing next year that is an Artist Color Wheel Challenge - find book covers that are mainly the colors on the color wheel and are the shades of the grey scale. Anyway, I read Book Chick City's blog  http://www.bookchickcity.com/  and they're doing a Mystery/Suspense reading challenge that I'm going to join in on next year.  I'm going to see if I can read 12 mystery/suspense books.  You may be thinking that that isn't a whole lot of books for someone who claims to be an avid reader; and you're right, it's not BUT I normally don't read myste...

Still Standing by Kristen Ashley

I have a love/hate relationship with Kristen Ashley's books.  I've been reading her stuff since 2012.  Some of them, I have absolutely LOVED - The Gamble, I am looking at you.  Some I have quit reading without even making it to the half way point - the Honey series *shivers* just NO.  I have felt that the last few books I have read/attempted to read by her just haven't been in her style.  Kristen Ashley is wordy and descriptive.  Her characters are some times so aggravating, but at the same time you love them.  Well, with Still Standing I think she has gone back to that type of writing that her followers all across the world fell in love with. Yes, Clara was a bit trying at times.  She seemed a bit lost, and with good reason.  But she had such a good heart.  And let's not forget Buck and his alpha-ness.  But under that jerk he was sweet and loyal.  I loved that he spoke in full sentences - if you are a KA reader, you TOT...

WIP Wednesday

Today is Wednesday, right?  My days are always off after a holiday.  I'm thankful for the rest and family time, but I'm lost on days.  So, we're just going to go with today being Wednesday, even if it isn't (I just checked and it is!) So, with that being said, here's what I'm working on this week in cross stitch.  First up is my June Cross Stitch Camp piece.  Sherri, The Colorado Stitcher on Instagram and Youtube, hosts Cross Stitch Camp each summer.  Each month, June, July and August, has a theme.  June was stitch something with a bird.  I chose Every Day Things by Heart in Hand (this was released this year at Nashville Market).  I am soooo close to being done that I will finish it in July.  This is on 16 count wren by Picture this Plus with all the called for floss. July's Cross Stitch Camp theme was something that grows.  I liberated Autumn 1831 by Samplers Not Forgotten from my wish list on 123stitch.  I'm...
