I Started a New Hobby

Well, hey there.  As you know, I cross stitch and sew.  I've been doing these hobbies for YEARS.  I learned to cross stitch when I was in middle school.  I learned to sew 27 years ago.  How do I know that for certain?  My MIL gave me a sewing machine when I was pregnant for Lauren - daughter #3 and she will be 27 this July.

The first thing I sewed was a cute little dress that was black and white gingham with a lace trim on the bottom.  My mom laughed because it wasn't labeled as an EASY pattern.  I just jumped right in.  I called her and went over with my dress several times just to make sure I was doing it right.  Since then I have sewn hundreds of pieces of clothing.  Not just for the girls, but if you dig through the blog, I also sold my stuff there for a while.

Well, being a sewing enthusiast, I like all types of sewing.  I use to watch quilting shows when the girls were little.  HGTV use to have them back in the 90s.  Have I ever made a quilt?  Nope.  Have I wanted to make a quilt?  Yes.  So, I decided that 2023 would be the year I learned to quilt.  *whispers* I already have two block of the month quilts kits that I've purchased and haven't done anything with

So here I am out in west Texas and I brought my sewing machine with me LOL  I've made Emery a couple of dresses while here, but I still haven't made a quilt.  I watch Flosstubes about cross stitch and several of the ladies who host those also quilt.  One of my favorites to watch is Kimberly Jolly from the Fat Quarter Shop.  I've shopped at her store MANY times for both cross stitch and sewing fabric.  In fact, one of those block of the month programs I enrolled in was from her store.  All that to say, I bought some more fabric and a quilt pattern from Fat Quarter Shop and I started working on my first quilt top!

I got the fabric line Hello Spring by Sandy Gervais and the Basket Case quilt pattern by Cluck Cluck Sew and I got to cutting.  Let me just tell you that some of those quilting ladies I watch make using a rotary cutter easy.  It's not as easy as it looks.  Or maybe I'm just not as coordinated LOL

These fabrics are really pretty and springy.  The first block I made took me about 3 hours.  The one I just finished was only 45 minutes!  It's getting easier.  These blocks are made in sets of two and I need 42 of them for a lap sized quilt.  Only 34 more left to make!

I am really enjoying this new hobby.  I have already purchased several other quilt patterns and have downloaded some of the block of the month patterns that a couple of my favorite quilt designers are hosting.  And guess what?  I have the fabric to make them too LOL  As I lay in bed this morning it occured to me that I have the fabric to make 5 quilts here with me in Odessa 😂😂I don't have a problem.  Not really.  Well, maybe.  But at least I'll be warm 😛

Until next time...

My Reading Habits

I am an avid book reader.  I have even been known to read a good bit of fanfiction (I'm a Twifan...yes, I admit that in public).  Since joining Goodreads I've come to love to do reading challenges.  In case you're like my best friend and have no clue what that might be, let me explain.  A reading challenge can be as simple as setting a reading goal for the year.  Or it can be as complex as one I'm doing next year that is an Artist Color Wheel Challenge - find book covers that are mainly the colors on the color wheel and are the shades of the grey scale. Anyway, I read Book Chick City's blog  http://www.bookchickcity.com/  and they're doing a Mystery/Suspense reading challenge that I'm going to join in on next year.  I'm going to see if I can read 12 mystery/suspense books.  You may be thinking that that isn't a whole lot of books for someone who claims to be an avid reader; and you're right, it's not BUT I normally don't read myste...

WIP Wednesday

Today is Wednesday, right?  My days are always off after a holiday.  I'm thankful for the rest and family time, but I'm lost on days.  So, we're just going to go with today being Wednesday, even if it isn't (I just checked and it is!) So, with that being said, here's what I'm working on this week in cross stitch.  First up is my June Cross Stitch Camp piece.  Sherri, The Colorado Stitcher on Instagram and Youtube, hosts Cross Stitch Camp each summer.  Each month, June, July and August, has a theme.  June was stitch something with a bird.  I chose Every Day Things by Heart in Hand (this was released this year at Nashville Market).  I am soooo close to being done that I will finish it in July.  This is on 16 count wren by Picture this Plus with all the called for floss. July's Cross Stitch Camp theme was something that grows.  I liberated Autumn 1831 by Samplers Not Forgotten from my wish list on 123stitch.  I'm...

Halloween's around the corner

So, I've been working on Hallween designs this week. What you see in the picture is a sneek peek of a set I'm listing next week for Bow*nified Designs Spooky Chic Halloween launch. I've got a OOAK skirt set almost finished and another set ready to cut out. Who'd have thought that I'd be working on Halloween stuff the very week the girls go back to school. I surely didn't. But I feel the need to keep up with what is selling :) And speaking of the girls going back to school this week...I've already subbed for 3 days! It's the first FULL week of school and teachers are missing days. CRAZY! However, I mustn't complain. This at least gets me in the classroom and schools so teachers won't forget me and the principals won't forget me so they can give me a job ;0)
