Cross Stitch and Quilt Goals for August 2023

Since I will be at home for the month of August and I'll have access to ALL my sewing and cross stitch supplies, I thought I would make a goal for the month and share it here.

In my cross stitch, I have the final installment of Cross Stitch Camp to do.  I'm using the Gather Pumpkins from the Fall Gather Round by Hands on Design to meet the "try something new" requirement since it has over one stitching in it and I've not done that before.  This is being done with all the called for floss and fabric because it came in a kit LOL

I'm stitching along with Nichol Spohr's Flying Lessons Stitch Along and that starts August 16.  She posted a picutre of a conversion done on a fabric similar to what I've got and in purple.  You know I am a cutesy Halloween person so this color way was perfect for me.  I've picked mostly Colour & Cotton threads with a couple Weeks Dye Works for mine.  And aren't those floss drops adorable?

I want to finish my June Cross Stitch Camp piece.  Every Day Things by Heart in Hand.  I'm super close on this one.  I'm thinking of finishing it as a small pillow and putting it in the dough bowl I bought at Hobby Lobby a few weeks ago.  I've got the bowl on the dining room table.  And yes, I realize I have not mentioned July's Cross Stitch Camp piece.  It's a rather large one that I KNOW I won't get finished this month.  It's a fall piece so maybe I'll prioritize it in September so I can display it.

Cottage Garden Samplings Partridge in a Pear Tree is also a goal to finish.  I'm so close!  I've already got the next two in the series.  My plan is to frame each of these individually and put them all over the house during Christmas.  I'm stitching this on 14 count vintage country mocha aida with the called for DMC and Classic Colorworks threads.

In quilting, I will finishing quilting and  put the binding on my Basket Case quilt and it will be done!  I am struggling with machine quilting on my machine.  I did not spray baste it to get it to be "glued" together, I've just pinned.  Maybe that would help me like machine quilting better.  I'll see for the next one LOL

I want to put together my pear blocks and get that going. They're all cut out, just waiting. The pattern is from Fig Tree & Co in her Fruit Salad book.

I have a new BOM that is starting this month from Fig Tree and I will put those blocks together.  This one is called Midnight in the Garden.  I am soooo hoping it uses her newest collection called Harvest Moon.

And lastly on the quilting goals is to start Manchester by the Sea by Fig Tree.  This BOM ended earlier this year and I have not even started on it.  I've seen finished ones and it's beautiful.

I better get to sewing if I plan on meeting these goals.  Until next time...

My Reading Habits

I am an avid book reader.  I have even been known to read a good bit of fanfiction (I'm a Twifan...yes, I admit that in public).  Since joining Goodreads I've come to love to do reading challenges.  In case you're like my best friend and have no clue what that might be, let me explain.  A reading challenge can be as simple as setting a reading goal for the year.  Or it can be as complex as one I'm doing next year that is an Artist Color Wheel Challenge - find book covers that are mainly the colors on the color wheel and are the shades of the grey scale. Anyway, I read Book Chick City's blog  http://www.bookchickcity.com/  and they're doing a Mystery/Suspense reading challenge that I'm going to join in on next year.  I'm going to see if I can read 12 mystery/suspense books.  You may be thinking that that isn't a whole lot of books for someone who claims to be an avid reader; and you're right, it's not BUT I normally don't read myste...

Still Standing by Kristen Ashley

I have a love/hate relationship with Kristen Ashley's books.  I've been reading her stuff since 2012.  Some of them, I have absolutely LOVED - The Gamble, I am looking at you.  Some I have quit reading without even making it to the half way point - the Honey series *shivers* just NO.  I have felt that the last few books I have read/attempted to read by her just haven't been in her style.  Kristen Ashley is wordy and descriptive.  Her characters are some times so aggravating, but at the same time you love them.  Well, with Still Standing I think she has gone back to that type of writing that her followers all across the world fell in love with. Yes, Clara was a bit trying at times.  She seemed a bit lost, and with good reason.  But she had such a good heart.  And let's not forget Buck and his alpha-ness.  But under that jerk he was sweet and loyal.  I loved that he spoke in full sentences - if you are a KA reader, you TOT...

WIP Wednesday

Today is Wednesday, right?  My days are always off after a holiday.  I'm thankful for the rest and family time, but I'm lost on days.  So, we're just going to go with today being Wednesday, even if it isn't (I just checked and it is!) So, with that being said, here's what I'm working on this week in cross stitch.  First up is my June Cross Stitch Camp piece.  Sherri, The Colorado Stitcher on Instagram and Youtube, hosts Cross Stitch Camp each summer.  Each month, June, July and August, has a theme.  June was stitch something with a bird.  I chose Every Day Things by Heart in Hand (this was released this year at Nashville Market).  I am soooo close to being done that I will finish it in July.  This is on 16 count wren by Picture this Plus with all the called for floss. July's Cross Stitch Camp theme was something that grows.  I liberated Autumn 1831 by Samplers Not Forgotten from my wish list on 123stitch.  I'm...
