My Top 3

It looks like my total number of books read for 2011 will be 117 (that is, if I can get through with the one I'm reading right now. It's just grating my nerves).  Of course, I only started tracking them in April, so who knows what the actual number is.  And let's not forget all the multi-multi-chapter fanfiction stories I read this year...last count on that was 57 for the year that I read in their entirety (and they were ALL Edward and Bella stories).

So, I thought I'd share with you my top 3 favorites for the year.  If you haven't read them, I encourage you to go find them at your local library or bookstore.  These are books that I will read again :)

Texas Destiny by Lorraine Heath was my all time favorite this year!  I'll be honest, I am not much on Western/cowboy type stories so I was a little wary going into it.  It blew me away!  It was romantic and angsty all rolled into one (and I love me some angst).  I cried in several places during the book.  I'll be reading the others in this series next year.

Outlander by Diana Gabaldon is the next one on my top 3.  I will never read a story about a Highlander again without thinking of Jamie Fraser.  I usually go for the alpha male who is strong and rugged and thinks "Mine" every time he looks at his woman.  Jamie Fraser was that kind of man, but he was more.  He was patient and kind and loving and *sigh* I want a Jamie Fraser for myself.

Once again, this was romantic and angsty and yes, I cried while reading it.  There is a whole series of books after this one that feature Jamie and Claire.  Normally, I'm all for a series and reading each book in it, especially if I love the characters (as I do here), BUT I read the summaries for the books and I just don't think I could go there.   Will I be broken hearted not reading the rest of the series? Nope.  Outlander ended beautifully and really didn't need a sequel (in my opinion).  In my mind, Jamie and Claire will live happily ever after and I'll not concern myself with the other books :)

Naked in Death by J D Robb rounds out my top 3.  Once again, this veers from my usual cup of tea in reading as I'm usually a romance-aholic.  This was definitely not a romance.  Was there romance in it?  Kind of.  Eve met Roarke and yes, they get together and he tells her he loves her and it made me swoon, but this was a murder mystery.  There's like 33 books in this series and I plan on reading them all!  Will I get to them all next year? Probably not, since I joined a group on Goodreads and we're reading one a month starting with number 3 in the series in January.  I am soooo looking forward to these!

So, that's it for my top 3 favorite books for the year of 2011.  I'm off to try and finish the one I'm reading right now....not to mention I've got to clean my bedroom for the new bedroom furniture that's getting delivered this weekend and I've got to work this afternoon.  Ah, it's just a day in my life.

Ready for the rodeo?

Well, after being away from sewing and listing and selling for a couple of years, I've finally got something new up. I used an adorable cowboy and cowgirl fabric from Michael Miller and made this skirt and top that would be perfect for a trip to the rodeo. Or it would be great for western day at school. Feel free to check it out...even bid on it ;0) http://cgi.ebay.com/Custom-Boutique-Rascals-Western-Cowgirl-CBD-FCBM_W0QQitemZ280255354898QQihZ018QQcategoryZ79714QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

A Lady Awakened by Cecilia Grant

I won an ARC of this on Goodreads - thank you so much!  I enjoyed it so much! My favorite romances are of the Regency period and this is that time period.  But that is where all similarities to others end.  Mrs. Russell (I just can't bring myself to call her Martha LOL) is a new widow who comes to realize she will loose her home and her dowry if she doesn't produce a male heir.  The kicker to this is that the late Mr. Russell's brother is a total jerk-face who has taken advantage of women in their home when he lived there as a young man.  Enter Mr. Theo Mirkwood...the rogue who has been sent to the country as a punishment by his father.  Mrs. Russell employs Mr. Mirkwood as her "stud" for a month so she can conceive a child and claim the inheritance.   Mrs. Russell believes she can't take any pleasure from their daily (later it becomes nightly) encounters.  Theo eventually changes her mind.  Martha is so set on her plan to thwart her late hus

So Harley has this interview to do

for church. She's suppose to interview one of the "older" members of the church about their Christmas memories and she'll have a presentation to do in front of the whole church at one of our Christmas programs. That is all fine and dandy, but she's in 3rd grade. Can you see her trying to take notes for when they answer her question of "what is your most memorable Christmas memory?" There is no way she can write even half way fast enough to get it down. I understand what they're trying to do and it's great! But what were they thinking asking a 3rd grader to do it? We have tons of 6th graders...let them do it. I'm tempted not to even bring her tonight for it. What should I do?
